Breastfeeding Help in Broward County

Women sometimes need a little help getting started on breastfeeding immediately after giving birth. Luckily, advice and guidance is plentiful in Broward County.

Signs mom may need extra help: Persistent pain or difficulty with baby latching on while breastfeeding. Inadequate diaper output (doctor or nurse can give details). Baby persistently fusses at the breast (squirming, crying, pulling away or arching off the breast). Infant weight gain of less than 6-8 ounces per week.

The Broward County Breastfeeding Coalition – the Florida Department of Health in Broward teamed with hospitals, nurses and advocates – has made a list of local education organizations, support groups at hospitals, lactation consultants and supply sources.
