Stress is a state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting from adverse or very demanding circumstances. Stress negatively impacts emotional and physical well-being and has been linked to many diseases and illness, including heart disease and depression. Many people try to ignore the problem, or self-medicate, neither of which works well.

Successful stress management involves identifying the causes of stress, exercising, replacing unhealthy coping methods with healthy ones, interacting with others and maintaining a balanced lifestyle.
